FISHING REPORT FROM ZANCUDO’S LODGE
Jim and I just returned a week or so ago from our trip to Zancudo’s Lodge in Costa Rica. It went about as smoothly as it possibly could. Ground services were there and on time – we even had the same fellow 3 out of the four pick-ups come and get us. He became very protective of us and wanted to make sure we got to where we needed to go. He himself had spent time in a wheelchair, so he could really relate to Jim’s condition.
The lodge, as you know, is in a very lovely location. We ended up in one of the suites as it afforded Jim more room with the wheelchair. The step provided a challenge, but we worked out a system that got Jim up & down the stairs. Our guide Jimmy was terrific. He was so good with Jim and knew just where to find those roosterfish. We fished 4 days inshore and 1 outside for sails. The fishing was very rewarding. We averaged about 7-8 roosters a day and many jack crevalle in between. Our best day was 24 fish – 14 of them being roosterfish. We felt fortunate in catching this many as everyone else who went out for them did not do nearly as well as we did. The sailfish were plentiful, however we only did 1 day. Most of the other fishermen were catching between 4- 6 sails a day along with dorado. Weather was great. Roy runs a tight ship and his staff is excellent. They were so helpful with Jim. Food and drinks were top notch. It was also nice to have the swimming pool there and I look at it all summer. When do I swim? When we go out of the country on vacation!!!
The hotel in San Jose was an excellent choice. Lovely spacious rooms, nice restaurants and pools.
All in all, it was a very satisfying trip and one that will be repeated down the road. Roy tells us he is going to be doing some remodeling including ramps, larger rooms, etc. in the near future.
Thanks again for all your help in planning out this trip. Your always do such a nice job. I know I’ve said it before, but you supply a very thorough itinerary for us travelers and it’s nice to know there are numbers to call, etc. when traveling out of the country. I’m sure you’ll do the same again.
We’ll be in touch.” – Betty Stevens
