Hello from the Tropics,
The fishing here at Coiba continues to hold solid! Fishing with us this week was a mixed group of great fisherman from southern California and master fisherman Len Belcaro of Big Game Fishing Journal in New Jersey. Representing the west coast was Kit McNear of Western Outdoor News, pro video man Danny Jackson and international traveling fishermen Dennis Burlason, Ed Howerton, Lauren O’Conner, Jack Lester, Todd Pile, and Gerry Puglisi.
This group came to Panama for a mixed bag of fishing with a special interest in bottom jigging and wow did they catch the fish! The Black Marlin remained aggressive on the bank with at least a strike a day and both Kit and Gerry ended up landing 400 pound class fish!
The Record 56# Cubera
The inshore fishing was not only good it was great!! This group showed up with an arsenal of hi-tech casting, jigging, and offshore tackle and we were able to put all of it to the test! The bottom jigging was some of the best we have ever seen with up to 60 fish a day including Amberjack, Grouper, Cubera Snapper, Silk Snapper, tons of Jacks…wow lots of action. We saw two of the most explosive top water strikes ever as a 150+ pound Bull Shark exploded on a YO ZURI Surface Bull lure being retrieved first by Ed and a few cast later Dennis pinned the fish. Dennis was able to hang on to the monster for a few tackle testing moments before his line touched the rocks and broke him off. Other notable catches include Lauren’s womens record tying 56 pound Cubeba Snapper on 80 lb line and her last minute 30 lb Roosterfish; Jack, Danny and Todd’s 60 fish day and Kits last day wide open bottom jigging bonanza.
It was another unbelievable action packed week here at Coiba. Thanks for the chance to fish with all of you.
