June 30 – July 2, 2006 Great fishing is the only way to describe my three days at the Hotel Oasis in Loreto. Of my several trips down there, this was one of the best! The first day was spent looking for Dorado, and we were not disappointed. We found several fish from 10 to 20 pounds that proceeded to test our tackle. My fishing partner Brian Mason was amazed at the strength of these fish and couldn’t believe how high they jumped. We ended the day by taking a trip over to San Bruno reef and hooking up with some hard fighting Jacks.
Day two found us in the middle of a huge school of Dorado. There were several pangas and every one I saw was catching lots of fish. I’m not sure of the numbers, but by 11 o’clock we were so tired from catching fish, we headed in early. Day three we decided that we had caught enough Dorado and chose to chase Sailfish. We searched for a while, but sea conditions made it difficult. So we headed inshore and found a large group of small Roosterfish. This was so much fun! Every other cast we did battle with these little Bulldogs ….We ended the day fishing for Cabrilla and had much success.
There are many fishing opportunities in Loreto and in three days we were able to experience several, which makes this place so great. As always the staff at the hotel Oasis went out of there way to insure a pleasant stay.
I look forward to my next visit to this wonderful little fishing village.
