Turneffe Island Lodge is situated on its own private island 30 miles offshore from the busy town of Belize City. The lodge is the original fishing lodge on Turneffe Atoll and is surrounded by an extraordinary marine eco-system that is home to millions of baitfish, crabs, shrimps, and other small aquatics that serve as the first link in the undersea food chain. Because of the pristine environment, the incredible variety of fish to catch and easy access from the mainland, it is no surprise that Turneffe Island Lodge has been recognized for more than forty years as one the top flats fishing lodges in the Carribean.
Before the lodge was constructed, anglers came from the mainland to Turneffe Atoll to fish for a day or two at a time. Over the years, they became convinced that not only should an offshore lodge be built, but it should be strategically placed on the Southern tip to take advantage of the best wading flats, the best permit habitat, and nearly all of the famous tarpon fishing spots. Creeks located only minutes away are home to snook, barracuda, cubera, snapper, and many species of hard-fighting jacks.
Offshore fishing at the lodge is provided by their 43-foot sportfishing yacht, and trips are geared to both fly fishing and conventional trolling tackle.
Turneffe Island Lodge limits the number of anglers each week to eight. English-speaking, native-born Belizean guides take the anglers onboard swift, super-skiffs for transport to the nearby fishing grounds. In addition, a strictly enforced catch-and-release policy in place for the last few years by the Belize government has increased the bonefish population and average size enormously. All this ensures that your guides will provide a productive day on the flats of Turneffe Atoll.
For the adventuresome angler, remember that Turneffe also provides a world-class diving location as well. Well know for its incredible diversity of marine life and coral formations, this is a snorkeling and skin diving paradise.
All guest-rooms are comparable and all are centrally air-conditioned. There is no surcharge for air-conditioning.
