Piñas Bay, Panama, offers some of the world’s most popular gamefish. In the waters around the Tropic Star Lodge, you can catch dolphin, tuna, roosterfish, snapper, grouper, amberjack, rainbow runner, and mackerel. In the last few years, “Pacific” tarpon (which made the trip through the canal) have been caught in the 50- to 100-pound range. Black, blue, and striped marlin, as well as sailfish, are normally “right outside our front door,” making this a truly unique location.

Tropic Star Lodge is a veritable paradise cut out of the side of a mountain at the edge of the Darien Jungle on the Pacific coast of Panama. The Lodge is situated 150 miles south of Panama City. It can only be reached by boat or plane, since there are no roads within a hundred miles. A charter plane lands on an airstrip in Piñas Bay. You then take a ten minute boat ride to Tropic Star Lodge.

The spacious cabins and rooms are air-conditioned, with a beautiful view of Piñas Bay. Each room has twin beds and private bath/dressing room areas. A king-size bed can be requested. The cabins have surrounding porches with chairs.

Multi-course dinners, complete with wine, are served in the scenic bay-view dining room each evening. The chef prepares various specialties, such as Baked Alaska, Cherries Jubilee, black bean soup, fresh baked pies and bread, ceviche, and many more varied and delectable dishes. A fresh “catch of the day” is offered, as well as our regular main course selection.

Tropic Star guests are catered to by 80 employees, whose “personal touch” makes your stay a memorable one! Since the Lodge can only accommodate a total of 36 guests at a time, early reservations are a must; otherwise, you might have to be wait-listed for a possible cancellation.

Room-Layout-Overhead-revisedTropic Star Lodge enjoys a very large repeat client business. It is known the world over as an exclusive fishing lodge where quality and a quantity of fish come together in Pinas Bay! You will find no telephones, fax machines, or newspapers at this fantastic “get away from it all” fishing retreat! We have a television and (VHS) VCR in the bar, used solely for the purpose of viewing fishing videos. Please bring any cords or adapters needed for your video equipment.

Weekly bookings consist of a 31-foot Bertram with captain and mate, six days of fishing (Sunday through Friday), seven nights lodging, and three meals a day, plus all fishing tackle. Arrangements for less than a week can be made after May 31, or on short notice due to cancellations during the prime time season of December through May.

DAY 1 – FRIDAY: You arrive at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport. Our Tropic Star representative will meet you at the gate to escort you thru Immigration & Customs to your hotel.

Overnight at either the WESTIN CAESAR PARK or BRISTOL HOTEL. Both are convenient to Albrook Airport in Panama City, where our charter flight to the Lodge departs from and returns to on Saturdays.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY: Dress casually for travel to the Lodge: light comfortable shirt, beach shoes (that are easily slipped off), shorts, or pants which can be rolled up easily. In the morning, you will be taken to the airport, to board our charter flight to the Lodge.

The charter flight will land at the Pinas Bay airstrip approximately fifty minutes after take off. You will take a short walk to our tractor-trailer, which will transport you to a panga for the short boat trip to the Lodge. During some low tides it may be necessary for you to wade out to the panga. Please dress accordingly.

The remainder of the day will be spent relaxing, swimming, and preparing for a fantastic week of fishing! Also, kayaks are available for your use that afternoon. Our Welcome Cocktail Party is held that evening around the pool area, followed by a buffet dinner, where you can get to know your fellow anglers.

DAYS 3 through 8 – SUNDAY through FRIDAY: Fishing, swimming, kayaking, beach-combing, exploring jungle rivers, watching fishing videos, meeting new friends, swapping fish stories, and just basically being spoiled and pampered by our friendly staff. The boats depart at 6:30AM, or later if requested, and returns to the dock by 3:30PM, unless you are hooked up. For safety purposes all boats must return to port well before dark.

DAY 9 – SATURDAY: You are transported via boat to the Pinas Bay airstrip for your flight back to Panama City, where you will be transferred to your hotel. The evening is open to be spent as you choose. The following day, Sunday, you are transported to Tocumen International Airport for you departure home.
