La Paz is a quality place to go for both sightseeing, fishing, and other sporting activities. The hottest fishing occurs after the first of July when the sargasso grass appears and fish can be found concentrated along the weed lines. During the summer months, huge schools of yellowfin tuna and sailfish, marlin, and skipjack tuna are common. Mackerel, snapper, grouper, and cabrilla are also available.
The area around La Paz offers a variety of fly and light casting fishing venues and is a good base for travel to several other locations such as Loreto, East Cape, and Cabo San Lucas. La Paz (lah-PAHS) which means “peace” in Spanish is the state capital of Baja California Sur and the second largest city south of Tijuana on the Baja Peninsula with a population of around 300,000. As the region’s commercial, cultural and political center, La Paz is still a tranquil and very Mexican port. While La Paz may have lost some of its luster with travelers due to the emergence of Los Cabos and Loreto over the past few years, La Paz remains a quality place to go for both sightseeing and fishing. It has preserved a sort of nostalgic “old Baja” atmosphere while offering up-to-date International amenities.
Mediterranean style bungalows with private patios, hammocks, and morning coffee offer relaxed luxury. A variety of activities include swimming, tennis, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, biking and hiking.
