Popular areas located north and south of our lodge have endured decades of heavy fishing pressure. But it’s not like that at Bahia la Tortuga. You reach blue water just a mile offshore from the small fishing village of Puerto Vincente.
Located in the middle of the Costa Grande, a 150-mile stretch of unspoiled coastline that Sport Fishing Magazine rated as the second best place in the world for sailfish. No Pressure here – too far away for the big charter fleets to fish on a regular basis.
If you’re looking for a place that has an infinity pool or lots of fancy malls nearby, the Bahia la Tortuga Fishing Lodge may not be the right spot for you. We offer simple comforts here.
The lodge is a hand-made adobe building that features 7 rooms, each with their own bathroom and air conditioning. Cool off with a soak in our small outdoor pool and then unwind under a thatched-roof palapa while sipping a frosty beer.
Tucked away at the end of a rugged dirt road, Puerto Vicente offers a refuge from the high-rises, blaring music and cruise ships found in Mexico’s most well-known cities. Only about 100 people live in this friendly community, which is set along one of the few sheltered harbors along the Costa Grande.
The Bahia La Tortuga Fishing Lodge provides comfortable, air-conditioned accommodations on solitary Playa Escondido. Each ocean-view room has private entrance and bathroom. Enjoy the ocean scenery and sunsets from our palm-thatched palapa.
THE FISHING Offshore and Inshore
Productive fishing is found only 1 mile off the shore from the lodge. This is because the Sierra Madre Mountains that run along Costa Grande extend into the ocean and then immediately drop off, creating deep waters that provide the perfect habitat for migratory trophy fish. It’s one of the reasons why Sport Fishing Magazine ranked this as the second-best area in the world for sailfishing.
SAILFISH, MARLIN, DORADO, TUNA, WAHOO, JACKS, MAKERAL, ROOSTERFISH, SNOOK
SEASON: November – February for Bluewater Species …… June-July for Roosterfish
But despite all this great angling, you’ll probably be the only boat on the water when you fish with us. This section of the Costa Grande coastline is too far away for the big chartered fishing vessels from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo to travel to on a regular basis. And without the crowds, you’ll have a much more relaxed fishing vacation.
