ish for two of the most exciting tropical freshwater fish during the same trip: paovon peacock bass and payara. Both fish are spectacular fighters. Peacocks are fished at Guri Lake and can easily reach 14 pounds. Bigger fish up to 24 pounds have been caught in these waters and 20 to 30 fish per day per boat is average. Payara are very aggressive. They like the fast water of Uraima Falls.
The average catch per day per angler is 8 fish, from 26 to 30 pounds. The 36 pound world record was caught at Uraima Falls. Some even larger, but not yet certified 40 pounders have also been landed. Accommodations are in thatch roofed, open air design bungalows with twin beds and private baths. There is an open bar and restaurant.
During high water Peacock are in abundance and closer to the camp. Low water means difficult access and the fish move out into the open lake.
