eralded as one of the finest fishing location in Australia, Cobourg peninsula is an idyllic setting where fish are abundant and people are sparse. Cape Don has access to a wide variety of saltwater fly fishing environments for the experienced or the novice fly fisherman wanting that "catch of a lifetime".

Prominent species include Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, Queenfish, Trevally, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Golden Snapper, Jewfish, Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Cod and Stripey. There are also shellfish, squid and mud crabs, making for an impressive fisherman's basket.

Prevalent marine life includes dolphins, sea turtles, crocodiles, manta rays and the fascinating dugong all of which are protected. Cobourg Peninsula is also a designated bird sanctuary wit habundant wildlife.

Whether you prefer bluewater, creek, or fly fishing, Cape Don has it all. With the assistance of their experienced guides and quality boats you will be taken to the best locations for a fishing experience of a lifetime.

The variety of fish habitats allows the fisherman to experience the nearby sandy cays, mangrove lined creeks, sandy beaches, offshore rock outcrops and of course the spectacular reef, close by to Cape Don.

Anglers fish an area still used as traditional hunting grounds by the local Aboriginals custadians. Site casting in the clear flats and estuary systems, the challenge of the big pelagic fish in the bluewater and the precision casting for barramundi amongst the mangroves are all possible fly fishing experiences.

Accommodation is within a newly renovated lighhouse keeper's homestead. The historic Cape Don Lighthouse, originally built in 1916 is still in operation and offers the charm of the past era with the addition of modern facilities to provide comfort after anexhilarating day of adventure.

The only access is by light aircraft landing at the Cape Don all weather airstrip. Our package tours incorporate the air transfer from Darwin and return in comfortable aircraft taking approximately 45 minutes, flying over some of Australia's most spectacular coastal areas.

All Package prices include air transfers between the lodge and Darwin, all meals, park entry permits, personal guided fishing and wildlife tours, modern fully equipped boats, 4WD excursions and fishing tackle (replace if lost or damaged).

Saturday and Wednesday flights depart Darwin at 15:30pm and return to Darwin at approx. 17:30pm. A surcharge of $100 p/p may apply if flights are requested outside the regular flight schedule.

What to bring
Sunscreen, hat, polaroid sunglasses, personal items, long sleeve shirt and camera will need to be packed, along with a good sense of adventure. Tackle is provided but if you have your own rig, beware - come prepared with heavy tackle. The Lodge has a fly tying station for the fly rodders wanting to try new fly styles on site with their experienced guide. Fly rods for practice or training, and specialty saltwater flies are available at the Lodge.
