Lake Rotoroa Lodge is a Victorian fishing retreat in an isolated, beautiful, unspoiled location surrounded by a forest fairyland of the Nelson Lakes National Park. This is without a doubt one of the South Island’s top trout fishing destinations. Some have called it the best brown trout fishery in the world! This is New Zealand’s fly fishing at its best with over 26 crystal clear streams to chose from and another 18 reachable by optional helicopter trips. Guides are excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Novices are most welcome and guides will have them taking fish quickly. Trout are fished by the classic New Zealand method of stalking and spotting.
Other activities include bush walks, canoeing on the lake, rafting scenic rivers, horseback riding, Farm craft visits, golfing, and sightseeing. Some of these activities should be scheduled ahead of time when you make your reservations.
The meals at Lake Rotoroa Lodge feature N.Z.s very finest cuisine served with a Victorian ambience. Superb dishes such as rack of spring minted lamb, fresh Nelson scallops, medallions of wild venison with plum sauce, wild goose with apricot stuffing, honey glazed loin of wild boar all served with fresh vegetables. All dress is very casual. Breakfasts are super. Hamper lunches are prepared for fishermen and for other outing parties.
Suites are decorated and furnished in the elegance of bygone years, however each has its own modern bath. Wonderful 1920s brass beds with feather quilts surrounded by antique furniture. All suites have superb lake and mountain views. Laundry facilities are available.
Lake Rotoroa Lodge features a separate house bar specializing in New Zealand and overseas wine with the usual range of beers and spirits is a wonderful place to relax after a days fishing, and enjoy the picturesque views in front of the roaring fire.
