Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge is the only property on Holbox Island dedicated to fly fishing enthusiasts and their non-fishing partners. Anglers and guides pursue big and baby Tarpon, Cobia, Sea Trout, Snook, Barracuda and some Permit in in clear gulf waters, endless flats and mangrove lagoons. Non-fishing partners mix horseback riding on the beach, sweet water cenote swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, birding and island exploration with hours of relaxation on the empty white sand beaches of this undiscovered island. You can also mix in a trip to Mayan Ruins or snorkel with the whale sharks. Many of our clients also choose to extend with a Bone Fishing trip to Ascension Bay.
The services you will receive at Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge have been honed through 25 years operating similar fishing and adventure lodges in Alaska and Costa Rica. The Lodge Manager, Luciano, will mix your favorite drink while he settles you into the lodge. He will explain in detail your schedule and you will learn about the weather, fishing, wake ups, guides, meals, happy hour and all the other things that will allow you to settle in as guickly as possible. There are devoted fishermen that travel the globe in search of giant Tarpon, and there are those that just want great rod-bending in paradise. Coincidentally, Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge has both. The migratory large Tarpon can reach 200 pounds in April to September, and there are Baby Tarpon available year round along with plentiful Barracuda, Snook and a few Bonefish and Permit. So if angling action in paradise is of interest to you – as well as your non-fishing partner – come visit Isla Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge.
Fishing days start at 5 am with coffee to your door wakeups, a continental breakfast and 8 hours fishing in the oceans or lagoons. Lunch and drinks are provided during the day’s activity. Bring your favorite rods (see individual species for recommendations), you can get your license on the island ($25/week).
The guide will return you to the lodge in time to have a shower before complimentary happy hour beverages on the beach in front of the lodge. Dinner is on your own in one of the nearby restaurants that feature seafood or Italian cuisine. On your last day, you can rise at an easier hour for some fruit and Luciano’s “Espresso Especial.” You will be returned to Cancun in the late morning or by boat and van in time for a late morning flight or an overnight in Cancun.
Accomodations & Food
The lodge is a beautiful property on a tiny undiscovered and charming island in the Gulf of Mexico. The beachfront location affords privacy, a gentle breeze, and a terrace view that will stamp your memory as one of the more unforgettable of your travel career. The rooms are modern, upbeat and air conditioned. Comfortable lounge furniture is available for deck or sand relaxing and the hammocks allow you to siesta “Island Style” . An outside shower with a Conch Shell spout pours warmish water over sandy feet—or a sandy fishing rod.
Food is always an important part of any vacation and Holbox will not disappoint you. You will be able to watch the daily catch brought in to the beach. The Gulf of Mexico provides superb seafoods that are on the menu at the several nearby restaurants—lobster, shrimp, calamari and the freshest of fish. An Italian presence has been on the island for many years resulting in excellent European cuisine that provides the island’s continental flare alongside the classic Mexican food. A continental breakfast at the lodge will begin each day and lunch is served on the boats on fishing days. Happy hour includes signature hors d’ oeuvres and all other meals are on your own in the local restaurants a 5 minute walk from the lodge.

This trip is designed for the fisherman looking for some world class clearwater, warmwater fishing. You’ll target big Tarpon, baby Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, Cobia, Sea Trout and even Permit on occasion.
Choose from three days of fishing on up (see rates tab above). For a small daily supplemental charge, you non-angling companions can accompany you and enjoy many relaxing and fun activities available at Holbox Island.
Fish and Nature Combo
Visitors to Holbox on this combination trip will participate in the full gamut of angling and adventure activities. It allows a couple or a family to enjoy all of the island’s magic — fishing, exploring, horseback riding and golf cart excursions. And there is still plenty of time for beach living. The fishing is for Tarpon and Snook and nature excursions include golf cart island exploration, horseback on the beach, swimming in the sweet water Cenote and visiting the bird colony. If you plan only one trip to the Yucatan, and you want to do it all, this is the trip.

This trip is for two couples that like doing different things—together. The gentlemen can fish all day, and the ladies will combine exploring the island by golf cart, swimming in the Mayan Cenote spring, and horseback riding on the beach—and ample amounts of time relaxing on the sand. This is a wonderful and memory making vacation for best friends. Late afternoon and evenings will be spent on the sand and then on our beautiful terrazzo, sharing a cocktail while watching our spectacular sunsets.
