Isla Holbox is blessed with one of the world’s outstanding tarpon habitats, so if you’re thinking big tarpon, this is the place. In addition to the huge schools of migrating giant tarpon, on Isla Holbox you’ll also target baby tarpon, snook, barracuda, jack crevalle, snapper, cobia, sea trout, and even bonefish and permit on occasion.
Lying off the northeast tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, this small island with its beautiful white sand beaches is relatively undiscovered as a resort destination. Saltwater flats and the seashore of one of Mexico’s most beautiful and uncrowded islands make this an oasis for travelers who enjoy comfort and natural beauty of a destination unknown so far by most people. A wide range of fly and lure fishing, bird and nature watching, fine sand beaches, fascinating Caribbean Sea, and professional guides and staff will delight you.

Here in the shallow mangrove flats you will find abundant adult and baby tarpon and snook throughout the year. However it is the migratory fish that make Holbox a unique flyfishing destination. In April, migrating fish begin to feed in the clear water of the shallows, but the best flyfishing is during June, July and August. Bonefish, barracuda, snapper, permit and jack crevalle are also abundant here in the spring and summer. Fishing is excellent at Isla Holbox and there are plenty of groupers, bonitos and many other fish of great size. The fishermen here also dive for lobsters and different types of shells. Children as well as grown-ups enjoy fishing at Isla Holbox.
Fishing International is pleased to offer two fine choices for your Isla Hobox fishing adventure… the Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge and the Hotel Faro Viejo.
Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge
As the name suggests, this small, beachfront lodge caters to those looking for a great fishing adventure and comfortable accomodations. The staff at the Lodge pride themselves on personal service and many extra touches like espresso at your door each morning.
Hotel Faro Viejo
Located on the beach only two blocks from the main plaza of tiny Holbox Village, this hotel offers a range of accomodations on two floors, built using “palapa” type construction. The hotel offers a restaurant, bar, and views of the sea from all rooms.
